A Whole New Era of TINY ONION Begins Now!
Announcing the latest evolution of TINY ONION, with the founding of a multimedia production company operating across publishing, film, television, and animation
Hello Friends,
I told you thereād be some big news dropping this weekend. And here it is.
I have started my own independent production company, gotten it funded, and weāve started staffing up in a big way. I have brought over Eric Harburn from Boom! Studios as my Director of Editorial (he will continue to oversee SIKTC and the Slaughterverse line at Boom! in a freelance capacity), and hired Courtney Menard as my Director of Production, and Jazzlyn Stone as my Director of Communications.
And weāve got BIG PLANS.
Some things I want to say in blunt terms here:
I am not leaving any announced comic projects, they are all continuing.
Yes, this means more of my projects are moving in the Hollywood space. No I canāt tell you which ones. Yet.
Tiny Onion is not a publisher, we work WITH publishers. I have very good relationships with all the publishers I work with and they all knew this announcement was coming, and weāre all talking about more ways to work together in the future.
Retailers who have questions, I encourage you to find Courtney and Jazzlyn at ComicsPro this week and ask them! But I think youāll find that now we have more resources than ever to coordinate with you, and figure out how to help you sell my books from all of my publishers. Weāre going to be building up our direct communications with our comics retail partners over the coming months, and will let you know how to participate as we get up and running.
Youāll see this newsletter getting a little more active, too. I wonāt be here to push out every post myself, but I promise youāre still going to get my little musings about my and my fitness journey and my thoughts on the worldā¦ Youāre also going to get more directly helpful dispatches letting you know which of my books are coming out when, and when exciting news drops. Youāll be seeing Jazzlyn Stoneās voice a bit more over in this lane, and I want you to be very good to her, like youāve always been for me.
I wish I could tell you all of the plans we have. A few days ago I laid it all out on the board for my new assistant, Antonio, and I had a moment of panic at the scale of what Iām looking to pull off here. Weāve been laying out an aggressive five year plan across all of our publishing partners. Our goal is to deliver strange, honest, books with sharp edges, and to bring the same principles Iāve taken to making each of my comics into making projects in every medium I can get my grubby little paws on. The scale of what weāve set out to build is daunting, but thrilling.

This is the next era of my life. This is what itās all been building to. There are so many little stops along the way. Ways that I might have been able to raise a little more money to give up a little more control (or a lot more, to give up a lot more). But Iām growing this in a way so that my voice and my vision remains the beating heart of my company, and that my company reflects my own autonomy and my own creative values.
Tiny Onion began in its first iteration right here in this newsletter, when I made the decision to create a central messaging platform that bridged all of my different publishers almost five years ago, just a few months after the launch of Something is Killing the Children and a few months before the launch of my Batman run. I used what I had built on this platform to step away from Superhero comics and invest in building the early infrastructure of what Tiny Onion would become. You saw me build out ShopTinyOnion.com right in front of you, and develop the line of comics we now have over at Dark Horse. And now youāre going to see the next big steps in my life and career.
I am anxious about the road in front of me, but Iām not worried. Iāve been building a plan in my head for years, and I just got the tools I need to execute it on my terms. And those plans are going to put a lot of really fucking great comic books in your hands. And a whole lot more.
