Beware the Batmen!
Join James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder for a seminar on collaboration in storytelling TOMORROW NIGHT!
Hey all, assistant Tyler here.
You might’ve heard my name over on Scott Snyder’s newsletter Our Best Jackett:
(Whoa where’d that link come from?? Wow, I would so type my email in and subscribe if I was you…)
As a member of the Comic Assistant community, I’ve found that you get to know just about everybody who works on the books we call comics. That’s how I’ve found myself helping out on both of these fine Substacks. We’ve been trying to get a real collaboration of some kind going for quite a while now, and I’m proud to announce that it’s finally happening tomorrow night!
If you’re familiar with Scott’s Substack, we host monthly sessions for paid subscribers where Scott walks you through how to write for the comic medium. It’s aptly titled Comic Writing 101. In the six months since we began these sessions, we’ve covered topics ranging from characterization to villains to three-act structure and answers dozens of student questions in the process! We’ve also had guest lecturers like Greg Capullo (Spawn, Batman), Donny Cates (Venom, Thor), and Chip Zdarsky (Chip Zdarsky’s Monster Cops).
And that’s where James comes in! As many of you know, James and Scott have been mining the storytelling caves together for over a decade now, so when the topic of collaboration was first written into the class syllabus, James’ name was on all of our minds.
This reunion for the ages starts tomorrow, Thursday the 17th, at 9:15pm EST. For those who are unable to attend live, the full seminar will be recorded and archived both here and on the Our Best Jackett Substack for any and all paid tier members. And to anyone worried about not having watched any past Comic Writing 101 classes, fear not—every class is structured to be independent of each other, so don’t worry about having missed anything. This by no means is meant to discourage you from subscribing to the Our Best Jackett and going through the full archive of livestreams and classes (pssst, the Annual paid tier save you 10% off a year’s subscription 😉) to learn from a bonafide comic writing expert.
It should be an evening full of inside jokes, blistering arguments, and two grown men essentially baring their creative souls to their computer monitors for a virtual crowd to witness. What I’m saying is… don’t miss it.
For all paid subscribers, you should be getting a post tomorrow at around 6pm with a Zoom webinar link to attend the class. Any questions, both logistical and general ones for Scott or James can be directed to the comments section of either this post or Scott’s from earlier today. Dealer’s choice.
This is Tyler Jennes wishing you all good mental health!
Just to be clear, will paid members of The Empire of the Tiny Onion receive the link tomorrow at 6pm or do you have to be subscribed to Scott Snyder’s Substack?
Shit yea!
