Hola Lil’ Onions!
Today is the day! We’ve teamed up with Ian Bertram to combine 13 years of personal sketches into one beautiful translation of this, his most intimate work, Acheron!
“This is my sketchbook. This is the thing I’ve been working on for over 13 years. Intense. Dark. Working through some of the most difficult moments of my life. This is me finding something within the chaos. That you can hold.” - Ian Bertram
For the last 13 years, artist Ian Bertram has kept sketchbooks. Part journal, part therapy, these incredibly personal books are where Ian worked through his life. When Tiny Onion’s Director of Production Courtney Menard saw the pages within, she immediately recognized their importance. Beautiful works of art, intimate and vulnerable, never before seen by the public. She convinced Ian to let us help him combine them into one book, and share it with the world.
That book is Acheron: a deluxe, bespoke recreation of Ian’s sketchbooks built to his meticulous specifications; a celebration of physical media.
What Is Acheron?
(Pronounced a-kr-aan)
The Acheron is a river in the Epirus region of Greece, that in ancient times was thought to flow directly to Hades due to its dark gorges and underground caverns. Traditionally translated in Greek as “River of Woe,” Ian felt Acheron was the perfect title for this collection of his darkest, most personal musings and sketches.
Inside Acheron
Acheron is an oversized landscape hardcover, featuring 60 pages of beautiful artwork with a handwritten introduction by Ian himself. Our goal was to make it feel as if you are holding Ian’s original sketchbooks. The book is a unique size at 9”x12”, and printed on a gorgeous 200gsm paper, to replicate every intricate detail.
For the first 24 hours, we’re offering a discounted Early Backer tier as a thank you! You can get it here.
We are so excited to get Ian’s vision of Acheron out into the world, we wouldn’t be able to do that without you!
Thank you!
