Returning Series: DC’s THE NICE HOUSE ON THE SEA

The Second Cycle Begins

We’re headed to the beach. 

Earlier today, Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter broke the news: the cycle will continue with DC’s The Nice House by the Sea, a second 12-issue comic book season launching on Wednesday July 24 by acclaimed The Nice House on the Lake creators James Tynion IV, Álvaro Martínez Bueno, Jordie Bellaire, and AndWorld Design.

Here’s James’s thoughts on this long-awaited sequel:

Hoo boy. I told you we were bringing back the big guns this year, and I wasn’t kidding. Here we are at the start of the next cycle of the NICE HOUSE saga. We’re calling this one THE NICE HOUSE BY THE SEA. Why are we calling it that? Who is the man on the cover and in the preview pages? Well, if you read and loved the first volume you know that NICE HOUSE is all about the journey, and the mysteries, and the strange mesh of characters. Which is short for -- I'm not telling you.

I find it very funny that The Hollywood Reporter used the quote, “My job is to scare my therapist with this book.” And it’s true. This is a deeply, powerfully personal book to me. It means the absolute world that it’s touched so many people, but there’s something deeply selfish about writing it. It’s me pulling back all of the darkest corners of my brain and exposing them to the light. This cycle is going to be different from what you expect. How different, you’re going to have to wait and see.

I am so thrilled to be reunited with my dear friend and creative partner Álvaro Martínez Bueno bringing this new cycle to life. I can’t wait for you to see everything we have cooking. I want this cycle to hit an even darker, more frightening place than the first, and Álvaro and I have been cooking up new ways to do that ever since before the first cycle ended. Jordie is absolutely destroying it on colors, and we’ve just got the first wave of design pages in from AndWorld and they’re just stunning. The team hasn’t missed a beat and we’ve got so much in store for you.

I’m excited for you to meet Oliver. And Max. And for us to pull back the curtain on more of this terrifying world for each of you.

THE NICE HOUSE ON THE SEA will be out Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
