Hello Friends. It’s hard to believe that I was in Singapore a week ago. Harder still to believe that Christmas is less than a week away. I still have some shopping to do! It’s really been a whirlwind of a few months. I am remarkably not as far behind on my scripting as I would have expected hitting up four international conventions in two months on top of the Holiday season and my birthday, but I am feeling tired. I keep crashing early and waking up early. On Saturday I was up at 4:30AM, so I decided to trek out to the Lincoln Center IMAX for the 9:30AM showing of Avatar. Which was fun! More thoughts on that below.
"The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood" by David Simon and Ed Burns is an amazing book. I've recommended it to several friends, who all loved it, and I always recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good audiobook.
Hi James. Just subscribed to the Empire for Christmas! Glad to be in with the cool kids.
I'm noticing that the first five chapters of Blue Book are no longer available for download as a PDF; Dropbox says the link has expired. Is it possible to fix that?
Thanks for all the amazing work you put out. Wishing you the best in 2023!
I agree with your Avatar assessment and am actually looking forward to the third movie (whereas coming out of the first movie, I wouldn't have said I wanted to watch a sequel). I think the third act emotional arcs could have used a little tweaking and I think one character could have been given slightly more nuance earlier in the movie that would have set up the climax better.
I hope they update Avatar: Flight of Passage ride at Disney World to incorporate the new movie somehow (although maybe the Metkayina is already in there at the end?)
Hero of Two Worlds by Mike Duncan was a good read. And he narrates the audiobook
