TINY UPDATE 4/4: A Brief Escape From Fun Hell
“Tiny Update” is a weekly free newsletter that keeps you up to date on the latest news, comic book projects and merchandise offerings from James Tynion IV and Tiny Onion Studios
Greetings and Salutations from Sunny California! Well, so far let’s call it “overcast California.”
I’m going to be spending this week meeting with each of the teams working hard to bring some of my comic books to life in film and television. It’s equal parts exciting and overwhelming. Los Angeles exists in a different dimension than the one I live in in New York City. I don’t need to be the hundred-thousandth person to break down the cultural Yin and Yang of the two coasts. I was sent this tweet the other week and it sums it up pretty nicely, I think.
I am a demon, forged in the flames of the Big Apple. I lived in Los Angeles for three years, and was very happy to escape back home to New York. If I can manage it, I’d reaaaaally prefer not to have to move back west full time any time soon. But it’s nice to visit in short bursts. Especially at that awful point in the year where the East Coast hasn’t completely decided whether or not to stop doing Winter. I’m ready for some nice weather, and to spend a week resting my comics brain and thinking about how to adapt my work best in another medium.
Send me good vibes, and wish some sunny days in my direction.

Last week was trying, and I’m ready for a bit of a reset. Getting a chance to take an aerial view of the Tiny Onion Empire and think about my priorities moving forward. I want to focus more on living my life better and wasting my time less. The grind has been particularly punishing lately.
This week, we’ve got an ONION DROP coming Wednesday (More on that below), and a behind-the-scenes feature on BLUE BOOK by Michael Avon Oeming coming on Friday! These features will only be available to paid Onion Club subscribers, so if you want in, you know what to do!
This Wednesday, I don’t have any new comics in stores, but I DO have some treats coming your way through SHOPTINYONION.COM. We’ve got the next Onion Drop coming your way, hitting at Noon ET on April 6th, for all paid subscribers of this newsletter. We’re going to be announcing and releasing a new variant cover for SANDMAN UNIVERSE: NIGHTMARE COUNTRY, which will be in stores next week!
ALSO: If you are a member of THE ONION CLUB, the premier membership level here at The Empire of the Tiny Onion, you are going to receive an email TODAY at Noon ET (about 30 min after this newsletter drops), giving you early access to this month’s Onion Drop. Onion Club members always get early access to the latest exclusive Tiny Onion variant covers and merchandise, on the Monday before each Onion Drop. If you are a paying member of The Onion Club and don’t receive your email at Noon, please email TinyOnionOrders@ThirdEyeComics.com and we’ll be able to verify your membership and get you the password to enter the store.
I’m very pleased to announce a NEW event on the books! THE NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE was selected for Comix Experience’s Graphic Novel Club, and I’m going to be in-store for a Signing, and to participate in a private discussion for GNC members on Wednesday, April 27th! I’m very excited to be heading back to Comix Experience for this event.
So, here’s everything I’ve got coming up for you!
CONVENTION - PLANET COMIC CON - Kansas City, MO - April 22-24
SIGNING - COMIX EXPERIENCE - San Francisco, CA - April 27
CONVENTION - MEGACON - Orlando, FL - May 19-22
More details about my schedule at these conventions to come as we get closer to the date in question, along with the perks offered to members of the Onion Club at shows.
Okay. That’s it from me today. Nixed the Quick Things section, because to be blunt I haven’t really read or watched anything in the last week. It’s all been nonstop work.
Cross your fingers for me, this week. It’s an important one, on a lot of fronts.

Good luck this week! Your work feels so naturally adaptable, I hope it's an easy sell! Because I'm really looking forward to an HBO Max limited series of The Nice House on the Lake in 2024. =)
I am looking forward to when James can talk about these Hollywood projects. I know that Dept. of Truth was announced as a show and Netflix picked up SIKTC hopefully a studio/streaming service realizes how great Nice House on the Lake is and picks that up, easily could be a multi-season show.
