Okay, so let’s get this out of the way first.
Here’s how and where to find me at New York Comic Con this week. I’m not doing any panels, and am just going to be in Artist Alley for 90 minutes each day.
The DOT bootlegs are going to be $10 each. Limit of one per person. They will be first come first serve at Table C27 in Artist Alley each morning. 75 copies on sale each day.
Now, let’s get back to THE DEVIANT. I ran the first several pages on Twitter, which I reactivated to help bang the drum for the Final Order Cut-Off.
Please buy this book!
It’s haunting and serious, but it’s ALSO got a fucked up serial killing Santa Claus. I think it’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever written. Honestly, between this and W0RLDTR33, I think this year has seen some of the darkest work I’ve ever put to the comics page. Josh Hixson absolutely kills on art and colors. Hass knocked the letters out of the park, and Tyler Boss did an amazing job on the design for the series.
I am immensely proud of it. This is me leaning on my deep and powerful love of David Fincher, and the stories of Hannibal Lecter. It’s my first creator owned book with no supernatural or science fiction elements weaved in. It’s a very human, very dark, serial killer story set during the Christmas season. It also, I think, reads very much like one of my books. It’s very personal for a lot of reasons I got into last week.
I’ll be banging the drum some more from my socials over the next seven days, but industry pals who want to give it a read should reach out to me, and i’d gladly pass it along
I watched IT FOLLOWS for the first time in a few years on Friday, and I really love that movie. I think what’s most remarkable about it is that the third act doesn’t work (they have no reason to suspect the plan at the pool would work, and it doesn’t), and how little that matters. I love something this simple operates so powerfully off of vibes and a great central conceit. Still very spooky. Good Halloween watching if you haven’t seen it before. Or even if you have.
I’ve done a good job at compiling the list of short stories I’m going to read over the next few weeks, but have done a less good job of actually reading them. I’m going to try to be better this week, even with New York Comic Con. If I never bring this idea up again this was a failed project, but I am going to try and be GOOD.
My pals Ivan Brandon and V. Gagnon teamed up on a truly GORGEOUS sci-fi epic retelling of the life of Julius Caesar, which is running on Kickstarter right now! This book is edited by Blue Book and Christopher Chaos editor Greg Lockard, and he’s been showing me sneak peeks of the gorgeous art. I can’t wait to get a copy in hand. Go back it right now!!!
Here’s another friendly reminder that you want to pick up a copy of ZAWA, which is FOCing the same day as The Deviant, next Monday. I really can’t say enough good things about this book. I am very proud of Michael. He keeps getting better and better!!!! Soon he’ll kill me and replace me!
Okay, that’s plenty from me this week.
NEW YORK COMIC CON is always one of the most exhausting weeks of the year and my week starts in earnest on Tuesday afternoon. Today is mostly me taking a deep breath and trying to become human and brace myself for the on.
Some cool things happening behind the scenes this week, so I’d also appreciate you crossing your fingers for me and sending good vibes my way.
