Hello Friends,
Let’s get right down to business. Over the next few days we’re going to hit the final order cut-off for W0RLDTR33 #1 and THE SANDMAN UNIVERSE: NIGHTMARE COUNTRY: THE GLASS HOUSE #1, so I’m going to chat to you about the both of them, but let’s start with W0RLDTR33…
We’ve been getting some fun quotes in from some of my favorite writers.
“What’s it called when something is a train wreck and you can’t look away, but by 'train wreck' you mean ‘masterfully done, infinitely compelling art that chills you to the bone?’ Because Tynion and Blanco’s W0rldtr33 is that.” —Robert Kirkman
“Any envious monsters who were hoping the [James Tynion IV] hot streak would end soon will be disappointed—this is as strong and (if anything) even bleaker than the previous books." —Kieron Gillen
“Dear god, James.” —Brian K. Vaughan
And look, I’ve been running the gamut making the hard sell for this book for the last few weeks, so I won’t go too crazy here. This is a BIG series, and Fernando and I want it to run for several years. If you’re a reader, add it to your pull list so you can read it. If you’re a shop-owner, you should put it in the hands of readers of my work and similar works, because we want to give you a comic you’ll be able to keep selling them for a good long while.
And if you’re a collector, I’ve got one last carrot hanging on the end of the stick for you. A special 1:75 Incentive Variant cover by the legendary Peach Momoko. Our FOC Reveal drop, and one of my favorite covers in the whole damn set. This is going to be a rare one, folks. You can put orders in now until EOD Monday, when FOC closes.
I also wanted to bring your attention to a little dealy that might have snuck past your notice. Back in November, Fernando Blanco, Jordie, Aditya and I put together a short prologue to W0RLDTR33, and ran it in the pages of the IMAGE! Anthology. I wanted to put that entire prologue up today, free to read to give you a taste of what’s to come. And a taste of how fucking good Fernando, Aditya, and Jordie are together.
Anyways! Get your orders in, people! It’s been a fucking THRILL to shill this book, and it’ll be even more thrilling to get it into readers’ hands. Like I’ve warned, this is a brutal, scary book, but it’s also deeply human and I have been looking forward to putting it into the world for a good long time.
BUT THAT’S NOT THE ONLY JAMES TYNION PROJECT HEADING TO FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF THIS WEEKEND!
I’ve been lax at banging the drum for another scary book that I have hitting the stands on the week of 4/12. SANDMAN UNIVERSE: NIGHTMARE COUNTRY: THE GLASS HOUSE picks up the story where we left Nightmare Country last fall, with some big returns of classic Sandman characters I’ve been dying to write. If volumes of The Sandman have been flying off your shelves since the Netflix series last year, and folks in your shops have been all about the incredible performance of The Corinthian, this is the series for you.
On the SAME DAY that the first issue of GLASS HOUSE hits stores, we’re also releasing the collected editions of the first season of NIGHTMARE COUNTRY. We’ve got a fucking GORGEOUS Hardcover coming out wherever books are sold, but as a treat for Comic Shops, a cheaper Trade Paperback is landing in stores right on launch day to make it easy for Sandman fans to pick up the whole saga to date. Lisandro Estherren and Patricio Delpeche continue to do absolutely stunning work on art, and Simon Bowland is killing it on letters.
I fucking love this book. We’ve got another surprise coming for you in next month’s solicits that will be of special interest for fans of Nightmare Country #7… I’ll keep banging the drum, but don’t sleep on this book! (Ba dum tish)
And special shout-out for the collectors out there… ALONGSIDE a murderers row of stunning covers, we’ve got a Jenny Frison 1:100 Dream cover to match last year’s Death, an open to order wraparound Yoshitaka Amano, and a 1:50 foil version of the Amano cover. Here’s the full rundown and all the covers…
MAIN by Reiko Murakami
OTO VARIANT by Rod Reis
OTO WRAPAROUND by Yoshitaka Amano
1:25 VARIANT by Rafael Albuquerque
1:50 VARIANT by Yoshitaka Amano (foil)
1:100 VARIANT by Jenny Frison
Ain’t they pretty, folks?!
I’m at the airport getting ready to head back to Brooklyn from Portland. I’ll do a bigger rundown of the phenomenal Blue Book event this week, but you can see the highlights over on my Instagram if you’re particularly curious. Huge thanks to the Dark Horse Crew and everybody who came out to celebrate.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone. (I just wanted a beer)
