I think I figured something out about your Batman run, James. The Designer, is he supposed to be Batman's version of Professor James Moriarty? Is your whole story supposed to be Batman's version of "The Final Bow" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle? Is that why you can't say what comes after Joker War because it would give away the whole story? When you said in your description for the Designer that he's a criminal genius with a vast network, that he's 60 years old, and his costume should look like it's from another era, those were the clues that led me to the conclusion that he's supposed to be Batman's Professor Moriarty. So the 3 acts to your story would be the Designer coming to Gotham, the Designer is the one who's going to boost the Joker, right, and then the Designer and Batman will have their final battle, Batman's "Final Bow" so to speak, right? Should be a great story if that is what's going on. I love Professor Moriarty and I've felt for a long time that Batman should have his version of that villain. Batman is the World's Greatest Detective after all.

As I tweeted a couple days ago, Batman 89 is one of my favourite single issues in a long time. Can't wait for everyone to meet The Designer, Punchline and the other surprises and little easter eggs that pop up in this one. Also loving SIKTC and looking forward to more. As someone who's life largely revolves around comics as I work in a comic shop and spend the rest of my time on a comics podcast, it's great to see someone at your level asking the questions and giving the suggestions about the industry that you are presenting here. Hopefully more will take note of what you are saying.

I cannot wait to meet Punchline! I am really excited to see what type of havoc she wreaks during Joker War. Also, in response to what you were saying about having select shelf space for graphic novels, I buy the characters or groups that I like. Like Batman for example. I have 50+ books for just him. I have been reading Batman since I was 4. The Doug Moench and Gene Colan Batman was my first taste of Batman. So when it comes to Batman, I get the stories that I like or have a villain in it that I like, such as Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Hush, etc etc. The older Batman stories I try to collect by writer or artist. I also have a lot of Marvel stuff and some BOOM!, Dynamite, Image, IDW, and Vault stuff. I like a lot of horror comics now🙂. But there is just so many great writers telling great stories right now, including you and Scott Snyder, that to me this feels like a new golden age for horror stories. Enjoyed your newsletter and thanks for the updates.
